2021 Season Updates and COVID Guidelines

The 2021 Spring Season of Baseball and Softball is little more than a week away. 


We have a lot of information to share with you!


The teams have been assigned and coaches met this week.  You should be hearing from your coach, if you have not heard from them already.  Some teams will begin practice as early as this week..

Start of the Season 

Due to COVID restrictions, we will not be holding our traditional opening day ceremonies.  Most teams will begin the season with their first games right around May 1st.  


As we are playing during the time of COVID, there are many precautions that we are going to follow.   We need our participants, volunteers, and spectators to also comply.

In order to maintain a healthy environment for our players and volunteers, we are adhering to the guidance set forth by the RI Dept of Health and recommendations of Little League International. 


Face Coverings / PPE / Preventative Measures

  • Coaches and volunteers are to wear face coverings at all times

  • Players are to wear face coverings at all times

  • Players are to use hand sanitizer at the start of each practice / game 

  • Temp checks - Coaches will be provided a digital thermometer to check temps at the start of games / practices 


Social Distancing

  • Whenever possible, all participants should be at least 6ft apart

  • When social distancing is not possible, face coverings must be worn

  • Social Distancing is to be maintained for all of those in attendance 

  • There are no handshakes or personal contact celebrations allowed (at the end of the game - kids can line up and tip their hats / visors to the other team)


Drinks and Snacks

  • There are no shared drinks / snacks - all players should have their drinks labeled with their names

  • No sunflower seeds or gum is allowed in the dugout or on the playing field

  • No spitting allowed


Dugouts and Equipment

  • Players are to maintain distance in the dugout at all times

  • Spacing has been set up by Newport Little League - players are to hang their equipment by a spaced number 

  • Players should not share equipment 

    • Each player should have their own bat, helmet, glove, catcher’s equipment 

      • If a player does not have their own equipment and team equipment is used, between uses - it must be sprayed with disinfectant.

      • If a player would like to see about borrowing equipment for the season, please reach out to their coach.  

Spectators

  • All spectators are to maintain social distancing  

  • Spectators cannot approach the players during game time

  • Spectators are to wear face coverings when using the restrooms, approaching the clubhouse, and when around other spectators 


Quarantine Directives / Contact Tracing

  • If a player or volunteer is directed to quarantine from school, work, the Department of Health, etc - they are not to attend a practice or game until their directed quarantine period is over. 

  • If a player has tested positive, you must inform their coach for contact tracing.  




Player and Team Photos

Please be on the lookout for an email with a link to pre register / pre purchase your photos.  Schedules for photos are being finalized -  Coaches will have the schedules for the photos.
