May 11, 2020
Dear Newport Little League Families,
It is with great sadness that I report to you that we have no choice but to cancel the Spring 2020 season for Newport Little League. The recommendation from Little League International was to follow the guidance set forth by individual governors after the May 11th restrictions expire.
At this time, the Phase I of the Reopening of Rhode Island plan does not open all parks, and still limits the number of people in social gatherings to 5. The details of Phase II are not known at this time. What we can assume is that there will be restrictions on the number of people that can gather, even out in the open. There will be restrictions on the minimum distance between people, the number of people allowed on a field, and even the number of people allowed in the stands. We do not feel that this will make for the best possible experience for our players and families.
What is of the utmost importance is the health and safety of our players and their families. The Newport Little League board and I feel that we cannot risk the health of anyone while attempting to play a season at this time.
We know that this is a very trying time for families, in many different ways. We would like to begin to process refunds as soon as possible. As you may be aware, Newport Little League is run by a team of volunteers, and our major source of income is registration fees. If you feel that you would like to turn some or all of your registration fee into a one-time donation, the league would be able to put it towards field and equipment upgrades for the next season.
Please complete the Refund Form in order for us to start processing your request. If we do not receive your request for a refund by June 15, 2020 we will consider it a generous donation for field maintenance.
Regards,
Chris Rosa
